This Is What Happens When You Are Friends With The Local Shelter Folks - Meet Nitro!

Meet Our New Pup Nitro!

Meet our new pup Nitro. We adopted him yesterday from the Salem Animal Shelter. He is a purebred boxer who is completely deaf. We are learning sign language for dogs to communicate with him. He had a wonderful day playing with Tallulah and Bailey. Lexi wants nothing to do with a big goofy puppy. Lexi finally got used to Tallulah bugging her (Tallulah will be two years old on Dec 1, 2010). My friends at the shelter told me Nitro doesn't know how to bark or wine...funny the minute he got here on Bluebird Farm he barks like a professional guard dog. I think someone at the shelter thought I was gullible and they were right because I actually believed them! I can kiss sleep goodbye for awhile...oh my...what have I done?

  1. He's adorable! How could you resist that little guy? We did a post about living with deaf dogs on http://dogs-n-more.blogspot.com You'll need to scroll back a little but it was written by someone with lots of experience living with deaf dogs. Congratulations, you'll be busy, but what a great adventure lies ahead.

  2. Awww what an amazing baby!
Look at those blue eyes! Boxers are the BEST! Such playful dogs.
We had one when I was a tiny girl and she took such good care of me.
You are a blessing....Nitro (by the way that name is tooooo cool!) is so lucky to have you!
I hear ya about the barking though. When we got our Sheltie we were told he had been "debarked", (which we would never do and didn't approve of but we got him anyway).
Debarked? Noooo way! He is one of the loudest dogs in our condo bldg, he barks at EVERYTHING!
