Saturday Pet Blogger Hop 5-14-2011 - Photos From The Pet Expo At The Roanoke Civic Center

Lexi, Nitro, Tallulah, Bailey, and I are excited to participate in this weeks Saturday Pet Blogger Hop. Special thanks goes out to our Pet Blog Hop hosts, Life With Dogs, Two Little Cavaliers and Confessions of the Plume! If you would like to read some entertaining pet blogger posts in the Saturday Pet Blogger Hop, just click on one of the host links above or click on the purple Pet Blogger Hop button on the right side of our homepage. Happy Pet Blog Hopping!

Nitro and I had a blast last weekend at the Pet Expo. He did a 6 minute demonstration on obedience and tricks he has learned in his trick class all with ASL signs (American Sign Language). He did well but he had two ten hour days with me at the Expo and he met lots of people and dogs so we were both exhausted. It took us three days to recuperate from all the work and fun we had at the Pet Expo. Today is the first day I've had time this week to do a blog post (just in time for the Saturday Pet Blogger Hop). Below are some of the photos from Roanoke's First Pet Expo

* The following photos were taken with my small camera with no flash so the lighting is not very good but I needed to carry a small camera because I had Nitro by my side the whole time.
Here was our booth representing three of our local horse websites and one dog blog website. I am so glad we got a double booth so Nitro and I could relax. His crate is in the back left corner so he could take naps.

This is a cute Pughuahua that was up for adoption at the Pug rescue. So cute!!!

 Chihuahua

Mugsy our Salem Red Sox (minor league baseball team)mascot came over and played with Nitro for about 15 minutes. Nitro was in heaven!

I had the honor of judging the PetEx Pet Costume Contest with Karen Hough with Field Of Dreams Dog Training Center. We had so much fun!

My friend Robyn Schon announcing for the first ever Pet Expo Costume Contest.

The Basset Hound took the top honors and won.

 Pretty little girl!

We even had a kitty cat in the contest...hmm...I wonder what she had to do to get all those beads?

This was our second place winners in the costume contest. They were so darn cute!

 Such a cutie pie!

The llamas were right next door to us and there was also some bunny rabbits and a huge turtle.

This pup was up for adoption. It is a one year old Great Dane Mix. The person working with this big beautiful dog had already taught this dog several tricks and it was very well mannered.

Jill Rappaport from the Today Show was there talking about her book and all her rescue dogs.

When Jill got to the Civic Center she stopped by The World According To Lexi's booth and asked me if Nitro was an American Bull Dog puppy. I said no he is a boxer and then she showed me her American Bull Dog "Petey" and he looks just like Nitro (white with one spot over one eye but her dog weights in at 120 pounds). She was very nice and we had a great time visiting with her. I also purchased her book "Jack and Jill" and it is such a sweet book about her German Shepherd "Jack" who died of bone cancer a few years ago. She is a true animal lover!

Nitro and I met this big guy out in the parking lot. Such a handsome fello!

My friend Anna Collette's semi-retired service dog. Anna is training her new service dog and both dogs are so sweet. Nitro and I had so much fun hanging out with Anna.

I think this Great Dane was just going from booth table to booth table snacking on the goodies that were right in front of him.

Great Dane meets timid German Shepherd mix puppy.

Nitro's peeps from the Salem Animal Shelter. He loves those girls!

You could see every breed walk through the Pet Expo and most of the dogs were really well behaved.

 Miss Kitty...

They also had some beautiful aquariums with cool little "Nemo" fish in them.

These custom chicken coops were so cool. They are mobile chicken coops so you can grab the big handles on one end, lift the coop up and then roll the other end and move it as often as you wish. I wish I could do that with my horse barn so I wouldn't have to clean stalls several times a day ;o)

There was a great cat area where no dogs were allowed. This is one of the kittens on one of the booth tables. What a little muffin!

Healing Strides of Virginia had two therapy horses there so folks could come and see them.
