Tomorrow is our big Dogtoberfest Dog Festival hosted by Saint Francis Service Dogs Training Center. Every year we go to Dogtoberfest to see all of our furry friends and have fun. They have some fun events like the Parade of Dogs, Agility Flyball demonstrations, PawCasso Paw Paintings, Music, great food, games and venders.

Here are some photos from last year's Dogtoberfest.

This is my friend Tonya's dog Lennon

Me, my sweet husband Chris and my little Pughuahua Tallulah at last year's Dogtoberfest.

Look at sweet Tallulah's face...she was not amused. She likes staying home all the time.

Beautiful Bloodhound!

This was one of my favorite dogs. I love his blue and brown eye (like Nitro) but even more I like how the sunlight highlights his blonde locks of hair.

There were many beautiful Golden's at Dogtoberfest last year. Look at this sweet face.

I just adored this "Granny" Chihuahua. She even had her own baby stroller so she wouldn't get tired.

The weather was perfect last year. This year it is suppose to be 55 degrees with 45 mph winds....oh my!

We saw at least 6 to 10 beautiful Boxer dogs throughout the day at Dogtoberfest last year.

Look at this little Pug face....I love PUGS!

This is a Welsh Corgi. I know you can't tell from this photo but he did have really  short legs.

Some dogs were in costumes for the costume contest. I liked this little bumble bee.

Here you could sign up to put your dog in the Parade of Breeds parade.

 Boxers and and American Bulldog

I loved this little Frenchie (French Bulldog). She reminded me of Martha Stewart with her little pink dress on.

Beautiful Siberian Husky dogs checking out the competition.

American Bulldog...he looks like Petey from Little Rascals!

This little guy was getting sleepy. He is a very handsome English Bulldog.

This is Lennon He took his Canine Good Citizen Test at Dogtoberfest last year.

This is my friend Tonya with her dog Lennon. Such a good boy! I love how his tongue hangs to one side.

This is our friend Gary getting a Caricature drawn of his big dog Wendell.

October is Adopt-A- Shelter-Dog Month so what can an adopted dog bring to your life?

There are as many responses to that question as there are dogs available for adoption in our country! That’s why during the Adopt-A-Shelter-Dog Month celebration in October, Lexi and I are encouraging people to adopt a shelter dog and experience the joy of finding their own answers.

A shelter dog can be many things to many  people. Here are just a few examples of what a shelter animal can do for you, your family and friends.

Shelter dogs make a great companion for lonely seniors.
Shelter dogs can be a best friend and confidant for you or your child.
Shelter dogs can be great running buddies if you like to get outside and exercise.
Shelter dogs can be a great way to unwind after work by taking your dog for a walk.
Shelter dogs can be trained to learn animal-assisted therapy or listen to children read in Library reading programs.
Shelter dogs can make great partners in agility competitions.
Shelter dogs can be a warm fuzzy face to greet you first thing in the morning.
An adopted shelter dog can be all these things to all people.

Angel is an adoptable dog listed on Petfinder. Click here to see your Petfinder Profile

Your local shelter is the perfect place to find dogs of every type, size, age and personality. Some shelter dogs have special needs and may not get adopted as easy as other dogs but they are all waiting for a loving home.

Since Lexi, Tallulah, Bailey, Nitro and I work on finding special needs dogs loving furever homes, we encourage all of you to check out our sister blog at www.deafdogsrock.com for a list of deaf dogs available for adoption throughout our great country.

Here are just a few shelter dogs on our sister blog www.deafdogsrock.com/adoptable-deaf-dogs that are available for adoption. Deaf dogs are the first to be put down because of ignorance so please consider your next dog being a special needs dog.
This is Dozer aka Bubba - He is a deaf German Short Hair Mix. He loves children, dogs, cats and especially the water. He needs a loving and patient home with a secure fenced yard. To view Bubba's profile click here.

This is Charlie. He is deaf and he is only 8 months old. He likes walks in the park, he is good with children and he is learning sign language. View Charlie's profile here.

This beautiful little 30 pound female American Bulldog has not been named yet. She needs someone to love and train her. She is deaf and she is located at the Orange Co. Animal Control in Orlando Fla. To view this sweet girls profile click here.

Look at this sweet girl. She is a deaf 10 week old pittie mix who needs a forever home. She is located in Yakima, Washington. You can view her profile by clicking here.

This is an adorable 10-12 week old deaf American Bulldog puppy who is located in Warner Robins GA. She will need a family with patience, love, and a secure fenced yard. View her profile by clicking here.

This is beautiful M.J. She is a 13 month old deaf spayed German Shepherd mix. She is at the Animal Control of LA County in East Lancaster CA. To view M.J's profile be sure to click here.

Meet beautiful Chamois. She is a darling, playful sheltie mix puppy. She is mostly deaf with limited site so we need a special family that will show her love, patience and have a home with a secure fenced yard. To view Chamois' profile click  here.

If you wonder why we call our new sister blog Deaf Dogs Rock, here are just a few of the reasons we came up with why our deaf dogs rock.

Deaf Dogs Rock Because…
you can crank your stereo as loud as you want.
you can eat snacks and chips behind them without them knowing.
they have no idea they are deaf.
they are not scared of thunder!
they couldn’t care less about fire or rescue truck sirens.
they sleep like a rock.
they don’t care if other dogs are barking.
in obedience class they are not distracted by other dogs or noises.
they don’t mind when someone sings off-key.
they have no fears over the fireworks on the Fourth of July.

Adopt - A- Less- Adoptable - Pet Week

This week is "Adopt a Less Adoptable" pet week at Petfinder. According to my dog Lexi, what that actually means is dogs that are black, senior pets, deaf dogs like our Nitro, are harder to adopt so they need a little extra help. So today we will be promoting Adopt A Less Adoptable Pet Week but to us all dogs and cats totally Rock.

                                                                South Dakota Trip

Since I don't get home to South Dakota very often to visit my family, I thought you all might enjoy some of the photos I took of an old fashioned South Dakota ranch wedding. The photos start the day I arrived on the ranch, through the surprise bridal shower for my niece Lisa, the day of her wedding and the days following her wedding.

The following photos were taken at my brother Jim's ranch when his daughter Lisa Marie (my beautiful niece) married her sweetheart Brian. Lisa and Brian are huge dog lovers just like Chris and I. They travel the country  with their four faithful hound dogs.

I flew in a couple of days early to help with the wedding preparations. We had so much fun eating, visiting, decorating and of course taking photos of family and friends. I hope you enjoy a peek into our family as much as I did spending time and sharing this amazing journey with them. Congratulations to Lisa and Brian!

The driveway leading into my brothers ranch....you guessed it...it's called 2 Horse Ranch!

Once you get down the driveway this is what you see. Perfect name for the ranch don't you think?

This is Sugar my niece Lisa's beautiful Paint horse.

Sweet Sugar! She is 24!

The gate that goes to my brother's barn.

Someone gave this old antique windmill to my brother. Little did he know when he accepted this gift he would have to hire a huge crane to get it home. I love this old windmill and I'm sure glad he put the effort into getting it on his ranch. It symbolizes the Old West.

One of their many hound dogs....

I loved this kennel my brother built for the dogs when company comes over. The dogs seemed very relaxed in their kennels even when there was 125 people celebrating all around them the day of the wedding. I did not hear one dog bark the whole time the reception was going on.

This photo is of two of my sisters and I along with two of my nieces at the surprise bridal shower (I'm in the center). The shower took place at Prairie Berry Winery. It was a beautiful setting.

It seemed like there was pretty babies in every direction!

The blushing bride-to-be! Surprise!!!

More of my nieces.....good looks run in the family ...don't you think?

This is the flower girl Miss Seneca smelling the flowers at the winery. She is such a doll!

This is a photo of all my sisters and I along with my niece Christina (upper right) and my little niece Maebella (lower left) right before the wedding was about to take place.

The beautiful bride being lead to the alter by my brother Jim (her dad) on her horse Sugar.

The exchange of the wedding vows.

I just love the horse in the back ground don't you?

 Mr. and Mrs. Brian Jansen!

Black gold...Texas tea....

My sweet brother Jim - Father of the Bride.

My beautiful niece Lisa and I after the ceremony.
The weather was 82 degrees and breezy. The perfect wedding day on 9-10-11

My niece Lisa with my sisters and I.

All three of my beautiful nieces. (from L to R) Jessica, Lisa and Christina

The day after the wedding we headed next door to my sister's ranch to saddle up her mini horse to lead the little kids around the ranch.

This is my sister Liz's Welsh cart pony. She gave us all cart rides and it was a blast! That's Lisa the bride, Seneca in the middle and my sister Liz driving.

This was the view from the front seat of the pony cart.

The kids had a blast on the ponies!

Before I left for the airport to return home, my sister Liz took me out to lunch at a new restaurant called The Dakota. Right in front of the Dakota stands this massive amazing metal sculpture by John Lopez called "Dakotah" which symbolizes the true spirit of the West.

Below is a video of some of John's work. He is truly an amazing artist.
